"Nobody’s perfect, we’ve all got to work it." - Girls Aloud
I spent a good portion of my twenties indulging a raging roller derby fetish. I watched bouts in tiny retro roller rinks, followed my team to championship tournaments and made a fool of myself at numerous after parties. I was attracted to the energy of the crowd and the culture of unapologetically tough and driven women playing a physically demanding game. And who are we kidding, derby girls are insanely hot. What riot grrrls did for third-wave feminism was what derby offered me, and continues to offer an entire new generation of girls. They deftly maneuver a spectator sport, highlighting the talent and passion of some extraordinary women. I thought my fandom couldn’t grow further, and then I found out about Team USA.
I’d just like to point out that watching an animated, dead, turkey dance — at all, any dance at all — is hilarious. Yes, it makes a pretty funny pun when it’s “twerking”, too.
If The Internet could stop making everything about SUPER SERIOUS THINGS THAT ARE SERIOUS for one fucking second, that would be great.
So if someone could make a Very Big List of Very Serious Things That We Are Not Allowed To Make Jokes About Because We Must Take Those Things Very Seriously All The Time, that would be very helpful.*
*Please do not actually do this. It’s exhausting enough already.
being a rich, white male in America is so hard sometimes :(
